Daddy’s New Playroom!

I knew before Rob had left that I wanted to do something really nice for him as a surprise when he got home. I decided that his make shift work room in the basement was not suitable as a Daddy. So I decided to build him one with style! I knew this was something I wouldn’t be able to do on my own so I asked my parents to help during their monthly trips to visit.

In January, we went to Sears and I picked out a Craftsman work bench, wall cabinets, floor cabinet and drawer set.  It was set to be delivered in February when my parents would be down to visit again. We spent that weekend moving everything out of his workroom onto shelves in the basement to make room. My parents even took the nasty carpet home with them for the dumpster.

My parents came in February on Thursday evening so we could spend Friday preparing the room. We went to Home Depot to put wood and peg board to build walls covering the concrete and insulation around the room. This isn’t the best picture but it illustrates how packed their car was. My Mom and I had to drive home in it because there was wood above our heads and my seat had to go all the way up.
We spent Saturday morning building the walls and putting up the peg boards. The room looked 10 times better just with that! The delivery guys came and brought everything downstairs for us which was a huge help. Once we saw all the boxes and realized almost everything was no assembled, we got right to work. We decided to start on the corner shelving unit. I am still not sure if that was a good or bad idea. About 2 hours later, we had finally figured out how it was suppose to go together and made some progress finishing it up. The wall cabinets and floor cabinet were much easier to assemble. We put together the workbench and realized we would need to do some cutting on the bottom support beam to fit around the piping in the room. We worked until Sunday evening and decided to finish everything up when they came back in March.

We organized all of Rob’s loose tools into boxes so we could find everything better!
March’s visit was a little easier. We made some altercations to the workbench, finished up the last drawer set and cleaned everything up. I am SO happy with how it turned out and am very grateful my parents were willing to give up three weekends to help make it happen.

This is the end result and I think Rob was very pleased when I showed him!!! We also had some fun moments along the way 🙂

Flip Flop and Alice were GREAT supervisors!

Tipful Thursday’s ~ Pregnancy Tip 5

Today’s tip is provided by Pepermint!

Although I do not take them seriously, I have found it fun to read all the myth’s published about pregnancy. Some of the best are the ones that predict gender. For example, craving salt means you are having a boy and sweats indicate a girl.

Out of all of them, there is one that I am most anxious to see play out. Apparently, the more heartburn you have, the more hair will be on your little one when they are born. At the rate this little is going, they will need a hair cut in the first hour!!!

I am not one to take medicine often, especially while pregnant. While I know many types are just fine to use, I don’t see the point if I can push past the pain or discomfort and it go away on its own. With that being said, one can only try sleeping through heartburn for so long. On average, I probably need 5-10 tums a day. Mostly it is at night or during the day when I am hungry, yeah figure that one out! Hands down, one of the best pieces of advice I have receive, from my Mommy of course, is that pepermint helps with heartburn. Since then, a bag has been planted in my purse and is restocked

So ladies, if it’s burning, pop a pepermint to alleviate the burn and give yourself a little fresh breathe!

120 days…

I can hardly hold in my excitement right now!!! I will make this brief, you will know why in a moment, but just had to write down everything that I am feeling at the moment.

I have been counting down to Rob’s return for the last 114 days…He left December 10th for a 120 day deployment. I have to admit that it has been very hard for him to be gone during this pregnancy but I have stayed strong, made it work and has his support, although from afar, the entire time.

Well, I can officially tell everyone that he is home safe and sound!!!!

Wait a minute, didn’t I say 120 day deployment? Isn’t it only April 4th? You maybe asking yourself, “is she really that bad at math?”. The answer is no, I am not THAT bad 😉 Turns out, although I already knew it, I have THE MOST AMAZING HUSBAND in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!

I got a call from my Sissy on Monday night wishing me a happy anniversary and informing me that although it was a celebration of Rob and I, her and my parents had a gift for me. She said that Wednesday after work there would be a car waiting for me to take me to the massage place I had been getting prenatal massages from. I was SO excited. First, I didn’t have to worry about commuting home and second, I would be relaxed from my drive home to NJ that weekend to see Newsies in the city and spend Easter with the family.

I was a little nervous because I had never “taken a car before” but she called me when I was done with work today and told me he was waiting out front and I probably wouldn’t miss it. So, I gathered my things and walked outside. I got outside and she was right, there was a black car that was kinda hard to miss in the middle of campus. I started walking towards it and heard someone behind me say, “how about I give you a massage tonight instead”. I didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was and began to cry immediately. I was so overwhelmed that I ended up walking to the wall next to me and continued to cry. I finally had enough strength to give him a hug. I was in total shock!

I finally got my bearings and started asking him a ton of questions like how was this possible, how long had he been planning it and then started asking about the weekend since I was going home and had tickets to a show. Turns out, he found out he could come home early in February and when he found out about our weekend plans told my parents and Sissy so they could all coordinate. We finally got into the car and went home. We called Sarah on the way as she had been patiently waiting for this since February for this moment :o)

Flip Flop and Alice were hesitant for all of 5 minutes and then started acting like they always did with him. We got things a little situated since we had to leave the next day for NJ and spent the rest of this evening just talking and laughing. He kept looking at my belly and touching it as he was equally excited to see me and feel the baby.

I am so happy this day has come and he is back home safe and with me.
