Month Two

Over the last month, P experienced

I started a Burke SAH Mommies group and we had our first outing on the second. We met in Woodbridge for lunch at Panera. It was a lot of fun and I got to know two of the ladies a little bit better. Their little ones were adorable! It was funny to see us in the corner with strollers trying to figure out how to set up the table. It was a little obvious we were newbies but I think we did great!

One of Rob’s good friends, Angie, got married on the 5th and P had his first babysitting experience. We are still very particular with who we leave P alone with so Sarah and Chris made a special trip to watch him for us. They spent Saturday in the city and then came on Sunday. Chris got to hold P who really enjoyed sleeping on him as we witnessed when we returned 🙂

Both Rob and P got to experience their first, of many, consignments sales on the 14th. It was a lot of fun and not only did we find some AMAZING steals but P got to try out our Becco Butterfly carrier. He slept almost the whole time which leaves me to believe he likes it!

I shed a small tear on the 15th because P officially graduated to big bottles for his evening “milkshake” as I like to call it. We supplement with formula 2-3 times a day with about 4 ounces each. Apparently 4 in the evening is just not enough anymore and he now needs 6. I can’t believe how big he is getting!

On the 12th, P officially started reaching and grabbing at things. On this particular day, it included my hair and glasses. He had already started pulling Rob’s chest hair when he lays on his chest but now he can control his arms and hands enough to reach for something and grab it if he gets close enough. Again, I can’t believe how big he is getting already.

On the 17th, P and I got our workout on for the first time with Stroller Strides. It was so much fun and I think he liked being outside for awhile! He also slept most of the time 😉

Doctors Visit

P’s visit to the doctor was rough this time since he had to get 5 shots and an oral vaccine. He is now a wopping 11 lbs 7.5 oz and 22 inches long. We were at the doctor on Friday for another reason and he weighed 11 lbs and 6 oz which means my little chunker gained 6 oz over the weekend! Dr. was happy with how the breastfeeding and supplementing is going.

Visits & Trips

One of my old colleagues and good friends Courtney (and her sister) came for dinner one night after they got out of work. It was really nice to catch up with them and eat Chipolte! They had me over for dinner several times when Rob was gone which I really appreciated!
On July 27th, we headed out on our first of many road trips to NJ. I road in the back with P and he did such a great job in the car! I think he really likes being in his car seat. We took a detor and stopped to see Yi quickly. Stopping was really rough and made the overall trip longer but P was a trouper and we were so happy Yi got to meet her new “little man”. Being home was great and gave Rob and I a chance to relax a little! Read more about our trip home here
We were lucky enough to keep in touch with one of the couples we met in our child birth class and had them over for dinner. I decided to be nerdy and make these cute bibs for the boys because we all think there names together sound like a law firm :o) Dinner was great and it was nice to have a couple over for dinner who also had a newborn.

I made this bibs for D and P to wear!

P waiting for his new buddy to arrive!!

One of my friends from graduate school who worked at GW for awhile came back into town for a visit and it was a perfect opportunity for some of my old colleagues and friends to meet him. They were all so cute with P and he enjoyed the attention. At one point Rob had to take him aside to feed and cuddle with him but that is because he loves his Daddy!

An old colleague and good friend, Ashley, came over to meet P as well. It was so much fun to catch up with her and watch her interact with P. For some reason I didn’t get a picture though :/

General thoughts this month

It’s amazing how you can love someone so much even though you hardly know them at all. I’ve been spending a lot of time staring at P in awe of how much I care about him. He reminds me of a little frat boy with the burping, spitting up and farting. The lip quiver has returned with full force and he also has started pouting which I just laugh at! He is getting more of a personality every day and I can’t wait until he can start using his words! This new life is getting more comfortable each day. I am learning what it means to be a mother and what my new priorities are.
