Letter to my pre-preggo self – BFP

October 21, 2011

Mary,

Today, when you get home from work, you will randomly take another pregnancy test. For some reason you like taking them, even though you are pretty sure they are negative. Well, get ready for a surprise. While you won’t be able to pinpoint when it happened, your PREGNANT! Yet again those silly Pharmacists saying it takes months after stopping BC, try weeks!

You won’t believe it at first and call a good friend to walk you through what 1 and 2 lines mean, it’s more confusing than you think. She is gonna tell you to get over to the store and buy one with out the lines. You’ll look silly sitting in the car chugging more water as Rob goes in to get another test, but you won’t care. After rushing home, you ask for some privacy and repeat the motions you have every night for the last few weeks. Don’t try to deny it, I know the truth 😉

You will calmly clean up the bathroom making sure to avoid contact with the display. Finally, after what seems like a hour, you will look down. The next few minutes, okay hours, will be filled with tears, hugs, and “OMG this is real” moments. The first thing you will do the next morning is log onto the Bump and post your first message in the July 2012 board!

You thought figuring out what a positive test looks like, wait till you try and figure out the EDD!

You’ll later realized that most of the snacks you purchased for the trip you can’t eat, buy you won’t care. You will still enjoy your vacation even though you can’t enjoy the hot tub or an occasional beverage, but you won’t care. All you will care about is the fact that there is a beautiful baby growing inside you. That your life is about the change forever. That your dream, of always becoming a Mommy, is coming true.

The next nine months are going to be longest and most emotional moments of your life, so far. You will realize you are stronger than you think and that the needs of your child will always come first, no matter what. That you can actually survive with out Diet Coke and that it is okay to have tuna once in awhile. You will be okay when Rob leaves for a few months and have one heck of a surprise when we returns. You will spend each week making fun posters for your Bump pictures and have a blast decorating the nursery. Don’t worry, you will gain an awful lot of weight but that only means you are growing one healthy baby!

Stay strong Momma, a year from now you will be sitting on the floor of your little ones nursery typing this as you watch he/she sleep soundly in their crib. Yes, you will decide to be Team Green and I am not about to spoil it for you!

Love,
Momma M

Love this! So sweet! I totally remember the “dance around the bathroom” routine, waiting to read the results on the test…

Awww, I still think back to my BFP and can’t believe it actually happened!

Such a sweet post! I don’t think anyone can believe it when they see the positive. I remember reading the instructions over and over, convinced that I was one of the “1 in 4 women who can’t accurately read a pregnancy test” even though it’s clear as day. Remembering to all those first feelings of joy and excitement always helped me get through the sleepless nights and hormonal days!

I was just thinking about this the other day. I think I took my first test the first week of November last year. Now look at the sweet, sweet babies we have!

I got pregnant on the second non-BC cycle. What a shock that BFP was!! It’s like, I know that’s what they warn you about in sex ed, but it’s so quick when it happens in real life!
