Chocolate Pretzel Rods ~ Yummy!

Chocolate Covered Pretzels v2

This year Rob, P, and I are visiting my parents for the holidays which means attending our family’s Christmas Day party. For those of you who don’t know me in real life, I come from a fairly large family. This year there will be about 45 family gathered together on Christmas Day. One of the newer traditions we have started is a cookie exchange. It’s a great way to share recipes and take a yummy variety of treats home to enjoy on New Years Eve. There are some amazing bakers in my family so I really had to step up my game and find something yummy. I wanted to make something a little different and ended up finding this beautiful image on Pinterest of chocolate covered pretzels. Turns out, it was from a favorite blog of mine, My Blessed Life.  Since salty-sweet is a favorite of mine, I knew this was the one!

What’s great about this recipe is that there really isn’t one at all! Just buy your favorite pretzel rods, Almond Bark chocolate and any toppings you fancy.

I chose peppermint pieces, Oreo cookies, sprinkles and pecans. I used my Ninja to finely chop everything. This is really important because bigger pieces won’t stick to the chocolate covered pretzel rods. I used a double boiler to melt the chocolate. In a perfect world, I would have melted the milk and white chocolate at the same time but I am still a novice baker. I melted the milk chocolate first and then the white chocolate later.

Now, before you get all frustrated, take a look at what my first few looked like. After these first few, I was ready to give up because they looked terrible! Figuring out the best way to get the chocolate onto the pretzel was a little tricky.

With the help of Rob and my Mom, we kept at it and 2-3 rods later, we had figured out a good rhythm.  I held the pretzel rod over the pot and used a spoon to evenly pour the chocolate on. Then I laid it on parchment paper so I could later trim the excess off and pick up the finished rod without it sticking. I did about 10 at a time and then sprinkled them with a topping. I found that if you sprinkle them too soon the toppings slips right off and too late they won’t stick at all. Make sure to have enough to practice on a few to get into a good rhythm.

I have to admit these came out pretty good and they were very yummy! I got several positive comments on Christmas Day and was asked to bring them again next year.

Gifts Under The Tree

I am so excited that P celebrating his 6 month birthday tomorrow! Not only because my little boy is getting bigger but I get to play with some pretty cool toys there are so many neat toys for him to start playing with. It was easy to get carried away with toys and stocking stuffers for him. I defiantly made several purchases over the last few months that we ended up returning. We realized that he doesn’t need a ton of toys so we kept the ones we thought he would like and benefit from the most!

Six month updates, photo shoot and favorite must have items coming soon!
