Words Of Wisdom From BlogHer Vets #BlogHer13
I can’t believe that BlogHer’13 is right around the corner! I have been so occupied with Parker’s birthday that I haven’t had much time to plan and prepare. Luckily, I am a member of an amazing FB group with a lot of BlogHer vets. They have helped me catch up and really get into gear!
I thought it fitting to share the love and pass on their amazing words of wisdom. There is no rhyme or reason to this list, just things which I have come across so far that I though was helpful. Enjoy!

“There is a lot of excitement about brand-sponsored events. Whether it’s your 1st, 3rd or more time at BlogHer remember that the way you conduct yourself ANYWHERE will be seen by brands and by other bloggers. Last year, there were reports of bloggers interrupting conversations, complaining about free swag, etc. Conduct yourself professionally, remember that it’s not about the stuff but about the connections you make, and respect everyone because you never know who is watching :-)” – Dusty As Mom Sees It
Don’t forget to bring lots of business cards (first of all). And I would attend at least 1 or 2 sessions (but not pressure yourself to attend more than that necessarily unless you want to). Last year was my first and I went to the Serenity Suite, LYTM open mic, VOTY reading, the speaker events, and used those opportunities to meet people, or hang out with my online friends. I connected with the people I wanted to meet before going to set up some time. In the end, it was the relationships that mattered the most to me. – Jennie from A Lady In France
Elizabeth from E, Myself, and I asked a great question that I had started wondering myself. “How should I prioritize my time there?”
“Depends on your goals. Some prefer all sessions, some prefer all parties and some do a mix. There is no right or wrong way to do the conference – just need to figure out what works best for you”. – Valerie Sweeps4Bloggers
If it is your first blog conference, you NEED to go to sessions. Pick ones that work with whatever else you have going on. Pick ones about getting blog traffic, sponsored posts, or others that will help your blog. Last year I attended the Voices of the Year reading after skipping it the previous two years. I am SO glad I went as the writers who read were some of the best in the blogosphere. Kind of reminded me why I got in to blogging…my passion to be a writer. – Jill Musings from Me
It really does all depend on what you want to get out of the trip. I would suggest not over-scheduling though. My first year I had so much planned and I was totally overwhelmed. And I had no time for spontaneous dinners with new friends… or seeing the sights. – Colleen A Madison Mom
Follow your heart, be true to you, and everything will be fine. Go to the sessions that sound interesting, say hello to people you recognize from online even if you’re a little scared. – Shannon Sweet Stella’s
