A Year Of Photos {Wordless Wednesday}

Thanks to the Project 365 Pro iPhone App, I have a picture of Parker everyday for the last year. It was a fun display at his birthday party last weekend and a great addition to his scrapbook! I didn’t realize it was possible to laugh and cry as much as I do while looking through these and remembering what this past year has brought us.

You can find out more about this iPhone App over at My Crafting Attic.

New iPhone App – ICE BlackBox

Growing up, I always remembered telling my mom not to worry, that I would be fine and that I am always careful. Now that I am a mother myself, I know how she feels. My son may only be 9 months old but I am already worrying about him.

I wish I could convince myself that I am overreacting, but I’m not.  I can’t seem to pick up the paper or turn on the news without seeing examples of how cruel our world has become. It breaks my heart and raises my anxiety level all at the same time. Everyday 160,000 students skip school because they are afraid of bullying. There is an average of 207,754 victims (age 12 or older) of sexual assault each year.

These numbers alone make me want to build P a bubble to live in the rest of his life. Possible? No, not really… So then what do I do? What if P falls victim to a bully? How do I protect my son.

I am so honored to be involved with the roll out of a new app for your phone called ICE BlackBox. An amazing group of advocates, parents and visionaries came together to create ICE BlackBox in hopes of giving potential victims a fighting chance against predators.

ICE BlackBox is “focused on the development of a mobile app that will change everything. It will be instrumental in the deterrence of several hate crimes such as bullying, rape, domestic abuse and other horrible personal offences.”

To download, go to your App Store on your phone and search ICE BlackBox. You can purchase this app for the iPhone for $4.99. The Android version will be available soon.

After download, you are able to select who you want your ICE contacts to be. These can be family, friends and even campus security. They will be the ones who are notified if you use the app to record a video. Make sure to let them know that they are your ICE contacts.

If you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation, open the app, click the 911 button and hit record. Your ICE contacts will immediately be sent the link to your video as well as your GPS location. The most important part about this app is that once you hit record, the video CANNOT be deleted. This eliminates the opportunity for the perpetrator to intimidate the victim to delete it or attempt to do it themselves.

ICE BlackBox is not only an iPhone app but “a movement to end violence”. Help spread the awareness by downloading the app for your phone and sharing it through email, text, tweet, Facebook and any other social media avenue you have.

ICE BlackBox is endorsed by some amazing advocacy groups.
