Favorite Toys at Bam & Chief’s House

Parker spent a good amount of time at my parents house (Bam & Chief) over the last few weeks while Rob was at training and I was in Chicago at BlogHer. Back when Parker was born, my mom started collecting a lot of the things we use so that Rob and I don’t have to cart everything up when we come and visit. She ended up getting the same Gulliver crib from IKEA, a Joovy Playard, the North States Superyard and all the essentials. It has been so nice to only pack clothing.

My mom has gathered quite a collection of toys from a few consignment sales and I thought it would be fun to share some of Parker’s favorites.

Parker’s new favorite thing is to dance and the Pop Tunes Boom Box plays some really good tunes. It’s an older toy so you are most likely to only find it at a consignment sale, garage sale or thrift store. I will have to keep my eyes open for it because it is a classic that I would love to have at our house too!
It didn’t take long for Parker to figure out how to work the VTech Explore & Learn Helicoptor  He loves pushing the balls through and playing with all of the buttons on the side. Once we gets a little older and starts walking we can put the string back on so he can drag it around.
I love that the Battat Sort & Stack is multiple activities in one. It’s great to build up with nice big cups but P also likes playing with the shapes and putting them in the holes and cups.
He is really starting to like trucks and the Fisher-Price Little People Rumblin Rocks Dump Truck & Dumpety the Dump Truck are perfect for him. He has already learned how to make noise with them even if he can’t find the people.
My mom found the Step2 Doorway Playhouse at the last consignment sale during the 50% off day. She wasn’t sure that P would really like it but he is having a blast. He loves when someone sits on the other side of the door and hands him toys through the mailbox 🙂

Parker’s 12 Month Favorites

I can’t believe this is my 12th favorites collage. I have had so much fun putting these together I may just need to keep going. It’s such a fun way to reflect on the month and what we have enjoyed using.

Tiny Bites Food Shears |  Disposable Stick-on Placemats |  Munchkin Trainer Spoon | Booginhead SippiGrip | Step2 Artic Splash Water Table | Laugh & Learn Musical Table | Stride Right Riff Baby Shoes

The Tiny Bites Food Shears are a must have for our diaper bag. Now that Parker is eating 100% table food, I usually just share meals with him. These puppies make it MUCH easier and quicker to cut everything up making a happy baby and momma who can enjoy her food a little more.

We were using a reusable plastic placemat but had such bad luck with it. It never stuck to the table and the tray that was suppose to collect food just because a play toy. We went to Chic-fil-a for lunch one day and they had these disposable placemats with sticky stuff on each end. They worked amazing so naturally my next step was searching for them on Amazon. I was so excited with I found Disposable Stick-on Placemats

P wants to feed himself something fierce. Trouble is, he hasn’t learned when to stop putting the spoon in his mouth. The Munchkin Trainer Spoon has been perfect for him. You get enough of the food onto it that he can suck it off just like a spoon but he can’t put it too far into his mouth. He is getting better at it every day.

I know there are mixed emotions on these types of products. You often hear, “this thing won’t teach him a lesson”. In my opinion, 12 months is really too young to “teach them a lesson”. All it means is Rob and I are constantly bending over to pick up his sippy cup off the floor and cleaning it when necessary. I love the Booginhead SippiGrip because we can secure it to his highchair or throw it in his diaper bag for the stroller or in restaurants. We will say no and hold off giving it back right away, but my back is thanking me!

Parker got an early birthday present from one of my good friends, Jen over at All Four Love. Of course hit the nail on the head as Parker absolutely loves his Step2 Artic Splash Water Table. I love that it is light and portable and Parker loves playing with the toys and splashing with his cloths on.

Parker actually got the Laugh & Learn Musical Table for Christmas from his Grandparents but he has just recently started pulling himself up to standing so he can really play around with it. Although, he managed for awhile to do it laying down.

Along with that, since Parker has started pulling himself up, it was time to get him fitted for shoes. Up until now, I hadn’t really been putting any on him consistently. I had picked up several pairs from consignment sales but wasn’t really sure if any of them fit him well. We went to the Stride Right outlet at our mall and found an adorable pair of Riff Baby shoes. They are perfect because the have soft soles so it doesn’t impede is crawling and still support him when he tries to stand.

What were some of your little ones 12 month favorites? We are always looking for new products to try out!

11 Month Favorites

I never realized before P was born that different types of bibs worked better at different stages during the first year. Now that P is eating 100% table food, the Summer Infant Bibbity Bib really helps limit the amount of food I pick off the floor. It is also quite entertaining to watch him pull food out and eat it 😉
We found both the Manhattan Skwish Toy and the Anatex Deluxe Mini Play Cube at the last consignment sale. I love that these are simply toys that require Parker’s own imagination. We prefer him to play with toys that don’t contain batteries right before bed.
At his 9 month check up, our pediatrician told us we should slowly start making the transition from bottles to sippy cups. We tried a few times since then but it was only about 2 weeks ago that he was able to finish a few bottles in the sippy. Just like everything else, it takes getting use too. We tried several different kinds of sippies but liked the Nuby Sippy Cups the best.
I am absolutely in love with rompers. Skinny arms, chunky thighs and adorable little butts 😉 I found these at Carter’s when they were doing an awesome sale!
The Fish Price Roll-a-Rounds Swirlin Surprise Gumballs toy is actually a friends. When we were visiting, P started playing with it and had a blast. It is between kids for her so we are “borrowing” it. It’s so cute to watch him push the balls around the then put them in the top. He always claps because he knows he did a good job 😉
With the nice weather, a Little Tikes Snug ‘n Secure Swing was on my must have list. There is a perfect tree and branch in the backyard for it. P was a little uneasy at first but it slowly grew on him. We love going out in the evenings after dinner to swing a little bit!

Ten Month Favorites

Umbrella Stroller
Every mom I know seems to have a certain “thing” they like to collect. Diaper bags, baby carries, but for me it’s strollers. Sure, you can manage with one if you need to. But they all do serve different purposes. Since I go to a lot of consignment sales that only allow strollers without baskets, this was a necessity. We keep it in the car along with our Graco LiteRider Stroller. It is very small and takes up next to no space in the mommievan (as I like to call it). I primarily use it for the gym and consignment sales. You can find a variety of ones with different features in the store like a canopy, drink holders etc… All I really needed was a seat, seat-belt and four wheels. We ended up finding this at a consignment sale for $5. Bought it first and then put P in it while we did the rest of our shopping!

Boon Grass Drying Rack
I know I already talked about this being a favorite at month 1 but it is still going strong as a favorite. Now, it’s filled with bottles, sippy cups, spoons and bowls. I love that the water drips down into the pan away from all utensils. It is an easy clean up and still looks super cute on our counter. We actually still have one in the upstairs bathroom where we make most of his bottles. It is nice to hang pacifiers when they are drying and the medicine droppers when he wakes up in teething pain at night.

Boppy Changing Pad Liners
We have actually been using these since the beginning, they just seemed to get the shaft each month. Although they have been important all along, I have noticed that they are now crucial during diaper changes because P now likes to spin over on his stomach in the middle. It has saved me from doing laundry just to wash our changing pad covers! We now have 3 changing pad covers and a pack of 3 liners. On a good day, we keep the same ones on. On the worst day so far, I went through all 3 liners.

BabyGanics Stain Remover
Iv’e lost count how many times I have talked about this product but I get so excited when I find something that works. With P eating puree and table food, his bibs and wash cloths are just down right disgusting. We have a basket with a plastic liner in the dinning room where we throw them after we are done. Before they go in the wash, I spray the BabyGanics on them and they come out clean!

Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair
What they should really call it is, “the most convenient high chair ever”! This high chair is AMAZING and will be on my top 12 baby products for the first year. This thing has gone to vacation, day trips and even to a few restaurants. It fits on any seat and if you have an occasional dinner napper, it’s great to support their head and let them have that little cat nap.

North States Superyard Play Yard
Iv’e also talked about this one previously but I am just so in love with it, I have to share it again. From it’s adorable appearance, bright colors and convenience, it was hands down the best play yard for us. P will spend hours in his playing with all of his toys and rolling around. I have links and a few toys hanging on the sides which he loves to take down as well. I know he is safe in there if I need to use the rest room or am running around getting a few chores done. When I am in the room with him, I will open the side so he can roll out and explore the room if he wants. He has become a very independent player and I know it its partly because of this play yard!

9 Month Favorites

Really? I feel like I JUST did this! 🙂 It’s really neat to see how P is evolving with his toys. He isn’t fully crawling yet but does more of a worm to get where he wants. He is getting close to sitting up from a laying down position but isn’t quite there yet. For the time being, he will play on his back or side unless I sit him up. The IKEA MULA Stack & Nest Cups are great because he can play with them on his back, sitting up or even on the changing table. He is definitely a boy because he loves to knock them down.

I have been using the Dapple Wipes to disinfect P’s toys after play dates. I love the dish soap for his bottles, dishes and any toys that can be soaked in water. The wipes are perfect for the toys that can’t be soaked.

P absolutely hates to get his nose wiped so I have to get in one or two wipes as quickly as possible. I keep a pack of Boogie Wipes nearby and in the diaper bag. They smell like grape and stay moist in the package for a long time.

I know, I know… If you have been counting we are now up to four types of bouncers. We actually purchased the Price Little Superstar Step N’ Play Piano when I arrived at my parents house for a three week visit. P loves this thing and is getting really good walking back and forth. We had also scored a Go Pod at a local consignment sale. P is still growing into it but this thing is great to have. It folds up to the size of a camping chair. It’s great to keep in the car or in a room where there isn’t enough space for a full bouncer. I have used this on play dates, while doing some yard work and when I need to take a shower while P is awake.

Picking out a stroller has been more difficult than buying a car, seriously. We had originally purchased a higher end stroller and after about three weeks realized we hated it. There were two handles so it was difficult to push if I was holding a basket or something in the store. It also had a tiny under basket, not enough room for the diaper bag. I felt guilty wanting to purchase another one but we came across a Graco LiteRider Classic Connect Stroller and it had all of the features I wanted. I am SO glad we went ahead and got this one. It is perfect for our needs. There are no chest straps so P can move around a little more. He loves having the tray in front of him too. The basket underneath has more than enough room for our diaper bag plus a few shopping bags. I can also get in and out of under basket even when the seat is fully reclined.

This last item is one of my top favorites to date. Kangaroo Care is an adorable shop on Etsy you have to check out. She makes all kinds of Nursing/Teething Necklaces. These necklaces are 100% natural, vegan and eco-friendly. They are perfect for nursing or baby wearing mommies. They are safe for baby to chomp on and stimulate their senses. I had mine on for about 30 seconds before P noticed it and started playing with it. I haven’t been able to wear jewelry but now I have something that is safe, fashionable and mom approved.

{Tipful Thursday} Bath Time Favorites

Bath time has become one of our favorite activities. Now that he is sitting up on his own, we had to transition him out of the infant bath tub. We just weren’t ready to put him in the bath tub with out any support. I started looking online for a bath tub seat, similar to the Aquababy Bath Ring but it was too pricey for the amount of time we would probably need it. A laundry basket works just as well, and makes it easy to collect his toys at the end!

Up until about a week ago, we were using The First Year’s Infant – Toddler Tub (with sling). We would fill it with water and put it on the changing table since P didn’t really move or splash, at first. The sling was perfect to support him as we learned how to bath an infant.

Around 4 months, we took the sling out and put the infant tub in our bath tub. I talked about the Bath Luv Frog in P’s 3&4 Month Favorites. This was really important in keeping P warm and happy during bath time. We used it up until a week ago when he started sitting in the bath tube in a laundry basket.

Of course, I couldn’t miss out on a opportunity to share our bath time favorites!

Since I love warm bath water, I love the Aquatopia Deluxe Safety Bath Thermometer to keep it at a safe temperature for P. While we are in the tub, the Especially for Baby Stacking Cups and Sassy Developmental Bath Toy – Catch & Count Net keep P entertained and happy. 🙂 He loves cups both inside and outside the tub. I wasn’t thrilled with him putting them in his mouth at first but there is no way to stop it 😉

I talked about the VTech Musical Bubbles Octopus in P’s 8 Month Favorites post. It is a really great price for the quality. As you can see, P really enjoys it too!

The Green Toys My First Tugboat is a great toy and functional when washing P’s hair. I found it new at a great price at one of our local consignment sales. They are recycled milk containers made in the USA.

We use Johnson’s & Johnson’s Naturals Shampoo and Johnson’s & Johnson’s Foaming Wash to keep him nice and clean. There are so many great products out there but these were the ones we went with. After we are done, we use hooded towels to dry him of and give him a little “free” time. We use Burt’s Bees Nourishing Lotion to keep him soft baby skin hydrated and silky smooth.
