Parker At 30 Months

In case you are trying to do the math in your head, 30 months is 2.5 years!

For his third year of monthly updates I decided to change up the format each month. This month I though an overall recap would be a nice  way to summarize all of his current achievements and milestones.

You can often find Parker watching…

IMG_0536This is Parker watching Ice Age for the first time. He loved Scrat and giggled every time he came on. We limit it to 1 movie a day but there have been several days this month where an exception was made. Either we were all feeling icky or I had a ton of things to get done. Whenever I am watching a movie with him I like to point things out or ask questions so he is engaged a little. For the most part he will sit and watch a full movie. For movies he has seen several times he does tend to get up and play throughout but always coming back to see where it is at.

He is often eating…

For the most part Parker has a good appetite. He does have days where he doesn’t seem interested in much but those days are usually followed by eating us out of house and home. He is somewhat picky on meat but loves chicken so we usually make that for him. He LOVES fruit and asks for it at every meal. Veggies are touch and go so we always keep Plum pouches on hand. His favorite veggie is salad… Figure that one out!

He loves spending time…
Playing with his buddy Meara
Visiting our good friends in PA
Riding in Chiefs truck
Exploring on the playground
Playing with his cars
Taking a shark shower
Making messes

He is now…
37 pounds
Taking a 2-3 hour nap daily
Sleeping around 12 hours a night, 7pm – 7am
Up to date on all of his vaccinations including his flu shot

He can…
Look through books and explaining it
Stack small blocks high
Count up to 15
Name all the letters but not in order
Talk in almost complete sentences
Put multiple thoughts together
Run, jump, and climb
Loves participating in our daily regiment

The other day while at my parents we were walking up the stairs. It is an open entry way and there is a window up high on the wall. He said, “get ladder in garage for window.”

You will often hear him say…
Oh my gosh
Ride in Chiefs truck (or Bams Yukon)
Where are you ‘name’ (usually with his eyes closed)
All finished
Help you (what he means is help me)
Get down, get up, get in, get out

Parker has been doing wonderfully with Caity. He likes helping out and will insist she needs a hat or blanket if he sees she doesn’t have one. He also lets me know (as if I don’t already know) when Caity is crying and promptly tells me she is hungry. We have noticed that he wants to eat on our laps more. I think it is because he sees Caity on my lap a lot during meal times. Unfortunately, he right smack in the middle of the terrible twos and really rockin it (yay for us!).

We spent the weekend at Bam and Chiefs while Rob fulfilled his weekend drill commitment. It was a nice little trip and Parker got to spend some time with Ah Ah too. He went to the Christmas tree farm with them and helped pick out their tree.

While we were there we had a belated Thanksgiving dinner. While Bam was making the stuffing Parker decided to help himself to a Cheerio sandwich.  Parker got to meet Ah Ah’s new boyfriend who has quickly become his favorite. They also took him to the Christmas tree farm to pick out a tree!

A week later Bam and Chief were at our house (so spoiled!) and we decided to try building a gingerbread house. I think it LOOKED fabulous for this first time. I can’t wait to build many more over the years.

On our way to NJ for the Christmas holiday we stopped in PA and spent the weekend with some friends. I already shared the recipe for Salt Dough Ornaments but just had to include this photo in his update because I adore it. My little Picasso!

Gift Ideas: A Toddler Wish List

Before every birthday or Christmas I find myself searching mom blogs for toys, games, and gear that their children enjoy. Here are a few of Parker’s favorite toys and games at the moment. It’s a good mix of imaginative play, educationally based toys, and toys to help him learn and understand social norms. You can find all of these items on Amazon Prime which is great for last minute gift purchases and avoiding the busy malls.

Rio | VTech Cogsley Learning Robot | VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels Heavy Duty Set
T.S. Chunky World Fire Dept. Puzzy Book | Kid Craft Everyday Hero Play Set
Play Visions Crayola Bathtub Crayons | Dyson Toy Vacuum | Toy Story 3 Memory

I always thought I would keep Parker away from all TV until he was older. That was something that changed quickly when I got pregnant and especially now with a nursing infant. We limit Parker’s TV time to 1 movie a day and on the rare occasion 2. I also look for movies that have color, music, and no violence which usually means Disney. His favorites right now are Frozen, Cars, Planes, Madagascar, and recently Rio. I have to admit I absolutely love this movie. The vibrant colors, fantastic music, and adorable animals keep both Parker and I entertained. Whenever I am watching with him we talk about what is going on in the movie and try to learn a few new words and actions. I am looking forward to adding Toy Story to our collection soon.

Parker is actually getting the VTech Cogsley Learning Robot for Christmas but I wanted to include it in this list. We have had it for quite some time waiting for the right moment.

We are a huge fan of VTech and the Go! Go! series. The VTech Go! Go! Smart Wheels Heavy Duty Set are a great for the car or to play at home. They each have their own name and personality which lets Parker relate to them. They can be used individually or with the Go! Go! series play sets.

Parker received the T.S. Chunky World Fire Dept. Puzzy Book for his birthday and it has certainly become his favorite puzzle. I like the added book that allows the puzzle to really come to life.

Rob scored this Kid Craft Everyday Hero Play Set of Craiglist and it quickly became one of Parker’s favorite toys. Since it does not need any batters or have noises or flashing lights we have it in his room. He will often play with it before he goes to bed and when he wakes up before he calls for us. It’s fun to watch him interact with the police chief and fire chief throughout the station in the appropriate social settings.

Bath time is our favorite part of the day (Parker’s and ours). He loves playing in the water whether it be a bath or “shark” shower and for us it means bed time is near! We got the Play Visions Crayola Bathtub Crayons so he could color on the tub and shower walls. He has even tried to give himself a tattoo a few times 🙂 It didn’t take long for him to realize he could click the crayon all the way up but after breaking a few and not getting them back he quickly learned to be more careful.

Parker loves watching us attend to chores around the house, especially vacuuming. We found this adorable Dyson Toy Vacuum awhile ago and he loves pushing it around the floor just like I do. It has such realistic sounds and even picks up a little dirt on the floor.

We received Toy Story 3 Memory a few days ago and decided to pull it out last night after dinner to play. We only used 6 sets at a time and placed all of the photos up. Rob and I would take turns handing Parker a card and he had to find a match. He didn’t really understand but he found every single one which was fun. We will slowly add more and eventually turn them upside down. For the moment though, he is practicing image recognition.

I would love to hear what are on some of your kids Christmas lists or items your toddler absolutely loves! There is another consignment sale coming up in March and I will be on the hunt for some birthday gifts!

Life With Two: 29 months & 2 months

Multitasking Momma
I am finding myself a lot more tired on days when I am alone with both kids. It’s a great day when their schedule mesh well together, it’s rough on the days when they don’t. My days are spent running around trying to give both the attention they want/deserve. The evenings are much different this time around since Caity has developed colic. From about 7pm – midnight all she wants is to be held/nursed. It gets emotionally and physically draining for me at times and frustrating for Rob since he can’t really help.

On a good day, Caity takes her morning nap while P and I get dressed and have breakfast. I try and throw in a load of laundry or clean up the kitchen before she wakes to eat. Parker usually plays in the morning and I put on a movie to occupy him while I nurse Caity and make lunch. During nap time I keep Caity upstairs with me while I attempt to get a craft project or blog post done. After nap I feed Caity while Parker plays until Rob gets home. Depending on the day he will either take care of them while I try to get more work done or we run errands. I usually feed Caity while Rob makes dinner and then he gets in some cuddles and playtime with Parker while I clean up and do the dishes. After that we head upstairs for bath time. Caity in her bath tub on the sink and Parker either in the bath tube or in the shower. Rob reads to Parker and puts him to bed while I nurse Caity again. Sometimes I don’t leave the nursery until it’s time to go to bed. Other nights I attempt to get some more work done upstairs. Rob usually heads upstairs to do homework right after putting Parker to bed. Good days and bad days can change this schedule around but for the most part, this is what the average day looks like. I will say that on a bad day nothing gets done, we watch a lot of movies, and I can usually be found in the kitchen attempting to make lunch with one hand while nursing Caity.

My biggest tip is to figure out what you can do while they are awake and what needs to be done while they are sleeping. I try to plan out at the beginning of the week what I would like to accomplish and what days I can work on those goals. The most important part of that is realizing it’s just a goal. Sometimes I get everything done including all the laundry while other weeks almost nothing gets done. Either way, I won’t remember them in 20 years just the memory and photo of all the cuddles I can manage to get in.

Brother & Sister Love

Parker is adapting really well with Caity around. He constantly wants to help and thinks Caity should always have her blanket, Monroe, and paci.

Parker vs Caity

Parker and Caity at 2 Months

Parker’s 29th Update

This little man has quite a personality and is even getting a little sassy at times. He hasn’t been to the doctors in awhile but last we checked he was about 37 pounds. By the fit of his 2T paints it also looks as though he has grown quite a bit as they now resembles high waters. He still enjoys going to “school” and seeing his friends although most mornings it’s a chore to get him up and out the door. His appetite comes and goes but when he is hungry he can eat just as much or more than Rob or I especially if it’s breakfast food. He loves almost any kind of fruit, yogurt, gorilla bars, and anything that is messy for dinner. He is napping 1.5-3 hours each day and about 12 hours at night. Our bed time routine now consists of a bath or shark shower, story time/quiet play and kisses good night. We just recently started working on cleaning up his play room together. Until now Rob or I did it after bedtime. He certainly isn’t quick but does well when we give him one task to complete at a time.

The way he runs and “dances” now you wouldn’t even think that he didn’t walk until he was 18 months. His fine motor skills are also getting stronger and he loves to stack his alphabet blocks. His vocabulary is out of control and he is mostly speaking in sentences, a little broken at times, but sentences none the less. We were at the mall the other day and Rob went to go move the car while we walked to the play area. Parker knew that was what we were doing next and said as we were leaving the store, “lets go find the playground”. My favorite this month was when we were at a restaurant ordering food. She asked us what we wanted to drink and after Rob and I answered Parker said, “apply juice please”. We were all shocked because he said it so casually as though he was suppose to go next. I hadn’t intended on ordering anything for him but couldn’t say no to that.

Some of my favorite phrases are…
“… lets go find Caity”
“…is Alica okay?”
“…over here” or “…over there”
“…yes sir”
“…cuddle please Mommy”
“… Mommy do working”

And some of our not so favorite phrases…
“… no, I don’t want to cuddle right now” :/
“… no stop that please”
“…ow!” which he yells at us whenever we are doing something he doesn’t want

Here are a few firsts for Parker this month…

On one of his days we took the kids to the National Zoo for the first time. Parker really loved the animals, especially the elephants. You can see more photos in my Wordless Wednesday post.

We had a lot of fun this Halloween trick-or-treating and making a few crafts. Check out my Wordless Wednesday post with more photos!

It’s hard to believe but Parker also visited his first museum this month. He was still a little too young to understand and appreciate everything but he loved all of the animals and the buttons!

Parker loves taking care of his little sister and always makes sure she has her blanket. If it can’t find one, he lets her have his.

He has also been imitating me a lot of the Boppy and tries to feed his baby doll. He also tries to put my nursing pads down his shirt when I leave them lying around, or on his head like a hat. 😉 Don’t worry Parker, I will pull those out at some point in your adult life.

Enjoying his first “chapstick” aka lollipop ever.

I was nursing Caity upstairs in the nursery. I had heard Parker mumble, “Daddy’s screwdriver” but didn’t think much of it. A few minutes later Rob got home from class and I heard, “hey dude, what happened to your clothes?!?” This is what Rob had come home to. It’s now a game for Parker to unzip his sleepers but the best part is when he tries to walk as he hasn’t been able to get them fully off yet.

Signing the bill for us, if only he had also paid!

I took Caity into a doctors appointment while the boys waited in the car. This is what I came back to.

Motherhood Confessions: i. miss. crafting.

It’s rare now-a-days to have time and craft, something I truly enjoy. My first priority is Parker and Caity, then the household chores followed by bills, blogging and my Thirty-One business. Time to Pinterest, work on designs for my Etsy Shop, and craft is rare and I desperately miss it.  Iv’e always expressed myself through crafts and not being able to do so is such a bummer. This past weekend I finally got to a point where I needed to schedule in craft time this week while Parker was at daycare. We have a lot of people visiting throughout the holidays and I want the picture frames full! I decided that today, aside from caring for Caity, I would work on two collages I have been wanting to make for both Parker and Caity. There are dishes in the sink, laundry is piling up, and I haven’t even glanced at the bill pile yet.

I have to admit, while I feel guilty putting the chores off, they will still be there tomorrow (unfortunately) so it doesn’t really matter. Plus, I am going to bed excited tonight to be able to put these up in the bedroom tomorrow. The laundry will have to wait one more day because I am not in the crafting mood and decided to work on their shadow boxes tomorrow!

In case you were wondering, I used a 16×20 collage template from CutePSD on Etsy to create these collages in Photoshop and am having them printed at Costco for $6.00 each. I made the birth stats prints which are available in my Etsy Shop.

What are some of the things you have to put off that you enjoy doing for other obligations? Do you miss it? If you make time, share your secrets!
