Paying It Forward

After a rather rough night with P, I was feeling down as I dropped him off this morning at daycare. He is such a good boy and so flexible with schedule changes. Another dad was dropping of his screaming son. I walked in with P, washed his hands, sat him down for breakfast, kissed him good bye without a single peep.

I get down about myself when P has a bad night. I sometimes feel like a failure when he is upset and doesn’t want me to comfort him. Then I run a million questions through my head trying to figure out if I did something at some point. Did I transition him to the crib too early? Do I let him cry to much? Do I not let him cry enough? Does he really love me?

Then a random act of kindness happens and completely changes my mood.

I stopped at Chick-fil-A for breakfast. As I pulled up to the window the lady said my bill had been taken care of from the guy in front of me. I have no idea why he did it, but it put a huge smile on my face and really made my day.

I never realized how a small random act of kindness can have such a positive impact on someones day. It’s not like it saved me a huge amount of money. It was the fact that the person noticed something and made a conscious decision to do something nice.

I can’t wait to pay it forward!

Has someone ever done this for you? Have you done it for them?
