{Toddle Along Tuesday} How I Met My McDreamy

I was really excited when I saw that Melissa over at Growing Up Geeky chose how you met your spouse for today’s Toddle Along Tuesday topic. Mainly because I love answering the question, “where did you two meet.”

I took a position at GW after finishing my masters in Student Affairs In Higher Education and moved to DC in June of 2008. I chose GW over another position because I really wanted to be in the city. I figured it would be easier to meet people and find prince charming make friends. About a month after I moved there I realized that the guys in DC bars weren’t really what I was looking for. I had done online dating sites in the past and they ALWAYS failed miserably  Even though I didn’t want to, I knew that I had to be proactive and my McDreamy wouldn’t just fall into my lap. I decided to try a newer site, okCupid, mainly because it was free.

Here were the pictures we each posted on our profiles.

I logged on one day and saw that Rob has viewed my profile and was disappointed when I didn’t have a message from him or even a poke! I decided to take a chance and and send him a message. We talked for several days and while I was visiting my sister in NY on Valentine’s Day, planned our first date.

I wanted to met him on “my turf” so we decided to meet at the Foggy Bottom Metro. I talked to my Mom on the phone the whole way there because I was so nervous! I could see him from across the street and still remember the butterflies I felt. We had dinner at Bertucci’s and then walked around the White House. It was a great first date and I am so happy he didn’t follow that macho, wait 5 days to call or whatever it is. We hung out 3 more times that week!

St. Patrick’s Day was the first time I really brought Rob our to meet my friends. It ended up being a great time and he just fit right in with everyone! Rob also came home with me a few days later to meet the family. I think he was in the room all of 5 minutes and was teaming up with my sister to pick on me.

April 2009 Rob took me to Baltimore for the weekend at a Bed & Breakfast. We wanted to spend time together before he deployed for 2 months. What an amazing weekend! I got to met some of Rob’s closest friends and party it up a little! The B&B was amazing and had breakfast delivered to our door. Who knew we would be married 2 years later and expecting our first baby 3 years later!

After school was out I took a trip to see Rob in May. I was so nervous going because we really didn’t know each other that well. Of course I was head over heels for him but I had been there before (*cough* California *cough*) We had be in a LONG distance relationship longer than we had been in the same city. i shouldn’t have worried though! Rob had all of these amazing things planned and we were all over Alaska. Too bad all, and I mean all, the wildlife heard I was coming. I saw about 5 moose then entire time I was there and that was the extend of the wildlife I saw.

That summer I switched positions and moved into GW’s largest first year residence hall, Thurston. I was so excited to move into a bigger apartment. Rob was due home in only a few days so I worked hard to get all unpacked. Before leaving on deployment, Rob was working on buying a short sale townhouse. He thought everything was moving along nicely but found out that the paperwork never went through. Too bad he had already given his apartment away to a friend. So we did what any logical couple who only knew each other for 4 months would do. He moved in with me. We got a little grief from friends and family but were grateful because they really had our best interests in mind. We couldn’t explain it, we just knew…
We had fun going to Nat’s games and even made it to a Raven’s game!
On July 25, 2009 Rob took me to a Brad Paisley concert! We had already decided by that point that Then was our song. Less then two years later, we were dancing to it as husband and wife.
In November 2009 we took a road trip with Rob’s best friend, Tim, to Disney. It was a great weekend and just happened to be when Rob had a custom ornament made for me that I would open on Christmas Eve that year. <3
Thank you for tagging along! I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little better and how I met the love of my life and father of my beautiful baby boy! Ironically, Rob showed me this quote tonight and I just had to include it because it IS US to a tee.

Toddle Along Tuesday ~ Holiday Wishlist

When I saw this weeks Toddle Along Tuesday topic I knew it would be a toughie! It’s hard for me to even remember the last time I thought about something I wanted. Even in one of my favorite stores, Kohls, I find myself in the children’s section instead of the shoes or home decor! With the holiday season approaching quickly, I realized that even if this took me awhile, it would be nice to pass along to family :o)

Cricut Expression Rolling Tote-Brown/Pink

One of my favorite craft items is my Cricut! The only problem right now is it is a little awkward to travel with because of it’s unique shape and size. This bag would be perfect to transport along with the power cord and USB to hook up my Design Studio!

Realistically, this just isn’t in the budget for Christmas but it doesn’t change that it is on my wish list! With all of the blogging I have been doing and what I would love to be doing in the future, this would be AMAZING! I will admit, I still use my version of Photoshop from back in college!

Cuisinart CSK-150 1500-Watt Nonstick Oval Electric Skillet

If you know me, and my major slight obsession with As Seen On TV products, you would be telling me the last thing I need in my kitchen is another gadget. I will say that this is something I could REALLY use! When I was home last my Mom used hers to cook pork chops and I loved that she could put everything in to cook and go off to do other things. Will a little one at home, these types of gadgets are worth their weight in gold!
I have had my camera since the Summer of 07 and still have not put a strap on it. Hubby keeps telling me I am playing with fire. I just didn’t like the plain strap it came with. Since I LOVE Vera and this is a favorite pattern of mine it would be perfect!
Having trouble coming up with your Christmas list? Hop on over to Toddle Along Tuesday to see what other Mommas have on theirs!

Toddle Along Tuesday ~ Toddler Obsession

This weeks Toddle Along Tuesday topic is toddler obsessions. This topic is coming at a perfect time because I think we have found P’s first obsession, FANS!

It doesn’t matter what color, shape, size or location. They all send him into an immediate trans that only the hunger for milk can break. It is so cute to watch him bend and move to get a glimpse at one. We were recently in OBX for the week and each room has one. It was so adorable to go room to room and watch him look for them.

When we were deciding which room would be his in the new house, the one and only deciding factor was a ceiling fan. Rob plans to switch it out for an airplane one once we move in, his new room theme.

I personally likes this one the best :o)

Toddle Along Tuesday ~ Weddings

Today’s Toddle Along Tuesday topic, hosted by Melissa over at Growing Up Geeky, is weddings. Still one of my favorite things to talk about since ours was only a year and a half ago!

Finding the accessories was one of my favorite parts. My Grandmother let me borrow the bracelet my Grandfather gave her to wear on her wedding day. I also couldn’t wait to make and buy one of these sweatshirts. They aren’t practical but I didn’t care :o)
My something borrowed was my Great Grandmothers ring that she gave my Mother. In our family the first female born has the name Mary Catherine or Catherine May (switches every generation). This started with my Great Grandmother.
We had the cutest Flower Girl and Ring Bearer ever!!

I was so excited to get married in DC during the Cherry Blossom Festival. I was even more excited to have some of the most amazing women stand next to me! My sister Sarah and best friend since elementary school Michelle were my maid and matron of honor. My bridesmaids were Sarah, Jamie and Jen who I met at college and graduate school. We were a hot looking bunch that attracted a lot of attention.

My Uncle played Bless The Broken Road on his guitar as I walked down the aisle. It was so hard not to cry as I walked down the aisle. I never did like a lot of people staring at me!
This is one of my favorite pictures of the day, not sure why 🙂
Rob isn’t much of a dancer so we can up with the idea to come in at different sides of the room. Everyone was looking at me dancing with the Best Man while he snuck in under the arch of the bridal party. I went underneath the other side and when I got to Rob we stood up while the bridal party nelt down. Everyone was so surprised because they didn’t see him sneak in.
My favorite part of the day was all of the DIY projects I had spent the previous year and a half making with the help of my Mom, Dad and Rob. It was so amazing to walk in the room that night and see how everything came together!

My garter was made from my Grandmothers wedding dress. My Mom plans to make one for each of her granddaughters.

My Mom and I made all of the bouquets and boutineers. I also found a DIY kit to make a basket that just happened to match our color scheme for the flower girl.
This isn’t the best picture but I never had the photographer take one. I made a different bracelet for each bridesmaid.
We made floral pieces for the risers. I used a center piece from one of my showers for the program table that was made by Rob’s Mom and Aunt.

I made a “family tree” of our parents and grandparents on their wedding days.
I made the programs look like a newspaper. It was a little tricky to get all the information in story form but I was happy with the result. The picture was taken by Rob!
We had a metro DC theme so place cards were metro tickets with a location around DC on the back (their table) and there was a display at the entry that had a metro map and some of our favorite locations around DC and why. Each table had a wooden sign with a location. We used, you guessed it, my Cricut to make them!

I threatened to beat up anyone if they hurt themselves while jumping!

Our day was perfect, even though the weather was not, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better!

Toddle Along Tuesday ~ Mommy & Me

Today’s TAT theme is Mommy & Me. It’s still hard to believe that I am a Mother!

I can’t believe that this was me just 16 weeks ago. We were inseparable for 38 weeks and 5 days! Being pregnant was such an amazing experience and I will always remember the first time I saw him on the monitor, the first time I heard his heart beating and when I felt him kick and move.

In P’s nursery, we hung a decal that said, “Your First Breath Took Ours Away.” I didn’t realize how true that was until my breath was being taken away hearing him cry for the first time. I was lying on a table, drugged up with an oxygen mask on but none of that mattered. I didn’t see a single person in the room expect my husbands eyes and didn’t hear a single thing in the room except his little cry. Best moment of my life!

At just 10 weeks old, my relationship with P is still growing. I treasure every moment, even the stressful ones, with P. Even though there are always chores to be done, nothing seems more important that cuddling on the couch. I can’t believe the growth I have seen with him over the last 2 weeks. He is starting to look around and I think he recognizes me and Rob! We are getting a smile here and there, every one making my heart melt.

Toddle Along Tuesday ~ Favorite Recipe

I’ll be honest, cooking just isn’t my thing. I really wish it was because when I do take the time, I really enjoy it! Since I am now a Domestic Engineer employed by the Meyer Home, cooking is a top priority in my job description. This is where the most amazing invention has become crucial in my life, the Crock-Pot.

It is so easy to make amazing meals without a lot of time in the kitchen. I am always on the hunt for yummy recipes so I will share my favorite with all of the Toddle Along Tuesday followers.

Pulled Chicken Sandwiches
6 hours with only 10 minutes of prep
Serves 4

3 boneless skinless chicken breasts
1 medium onion (sliced thinly)

1. Cut the onion in half and slice into half rings. Line the bottom of the crock pot with the slices
2. Trim the chicken breasts and place on top the onions

1 cup Honey BBQ sauce
2 tbsp cider vinegar
1 tbsp yellow mustard
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 pinch salt

3. Mix all sauce ingredients together and pour on top of the chicken and onions
4. Cook for 6 hours on low
5. When the chicken is nice and soft, tear apart into shreds using 2 forks (or a special gadget if you have one)

We love to serve the pulled chicken on sandwich thins with mac&cheese on the side!

For all those WW fans out there, a serving of this yummy goodness has 202 calories, 1.4 grams of fat, 26.4 grams of carbohydrates and 21.9 grams of protein adding up to only 5 points!
