Fabric thread – mercerized cotton or general purpose thread is best. Double up for efficient button stitches! Needle – Sharps hand needles, size 9 average works well.
Select a suitable button and thread that matches the button, the garment, and any thread used to sew on other buttons. If you like, you can double the thread to make this job quicker. Thread the needle. Simply pull the thread through the needle so that there is an equal length of thread extending from both sides.
It’s reasonable to expect your dry cleaner to replace any missing or broken buttons on your business shirts, free of charge. Many full service dry cleaners have their own onsite sewing and alteration service and will provide complimentary button replacement on shirts, as part of their cleaning service.
