Do dental implants have stitches?
Additional instructions apply for any implant or bone/soft tissue grafting procedures. Frequently, the stitches for these procedures and NOT dissolvable. We need additional time for the wound to heal to protect the underlying implant or graft. The stitches will need to remain in wound for up to four weeks.

Will I have sutures (stitches)?
Most oral surgical procedures require suturing the tissue together to aid healing. Most of the sutures we use fall out themselves over 3 – 5 days. Some sutures may need to be removed or take longer to dissolve.
What can you not do after dental implants?
Dr. Ficca recommends dental implants patients continue to avoid hard, crunchy, spicy, acidic, or sticky foods in the weeks after the placement of their dental implants. You should only begin eating these foods once Dr. Ficca releases you to do so.

How long after dental implants can I eat normally?
Typically, most patients can begin eating a full, normal diet within one week after their surgery. Be sure to keep your follow-up appointments with Dr. Kissel so he can assess how you are healing and determine when your implants are ready to receive the physical pressure a normal diet brings.
How are dental implant stitches removed?
Using tweezers, your dentist will pull gently on the end of the stitch to expose more suture. They make a cut, preferably removing the knotted end, and then gently tug the remainder of the stitch through. This process is repeated until all dental sutures are removed. Generally, this should not be painful.
Can you eat an apple with dental implants?

When you have dental implants, you can eat, chew, and talk just as you would with your natural teeth. Even eating foods like apples or corn on the cob will not dislodge or shift your new teeth.

Avoid rinsing, spitting, or touching the wound on the day of surgery. There will be a metal healing abutment protruding through the gingival (gum) tissue. Do NOT use an electric tooth brush for at least 3 weeks after dental implant surgery.

While there is no cut-and-dried answer, since every person perceives pain differently and procedures are very individualized, most patients report feeling less discomfort during implant surgery than in tooth extraction procedures.
Does food get under dental implants?
Unlike a normal tooth, dental restorations are completely cemented in place, so food (and other things) can’t get stuck underneath. If food ever gets stuck in your implant, it may mean the implant was placed incorrectly. This can be easily fixed with a simple re-placement at low cost.
