How do you finish Aida edges?
You can overcast the edges with a simple whip stitch, or fold over the edge into a hem and baste it. When hand stitching the edge, use regular sewing thread doubled up. Be sure to stitch into the fabric a bit so you don’t end up pulling up the edges – 1/4 to 1/2 inch should work.
How do you seal the edge of fabric?
Glue your edges with fabric glue, seam sealant, or super glue. Purchase any one of these adhesives at a local craft store or online. Simply place small dabs of glue along the edge of the fabric. Use a cotton swab or toothpick to spread the glue evenly.
How do you finish the back of a cross stitch afghan?
If it is an afghan done in blocks, it is simple to just stitch down the lines formed by the blocks and then around the edges to attach a backing. This is easily accomplished on a sewing machine. If the pattern is more ‘scattered’ you may have to quilt around each motif; you may prefer to do that by hand.
